Scottish and Southern Energy - the Perth-based utility giant -…
Muintearas, Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, through the Better Energy Community Scheme, are delighted to announce the successful installation of two 6.0kW Kingspan wind turbines into the local community.
This partnership that the community has created with Kingspan was essential to the success of this project and Údarás na Gaeltachta look forward to developing this collaboration further. These turbines are community owned and will generate approximately 18,000kWh of green electricity per annum each, and offset 2,387 kg of CO2. All of the energy is locally produced and locally consumed resulting in 100% benefit for the community.
One of the turbines will feed directly into the Muintearas Crèche, whilst the second will power the community waste water treatment plant that is located on the site. The turbines have a hub height of 9m and the installation will include a display screen within the Muintearas building that will provide data on kW’s generated, carbon savings, cost savings etc.
The Energy Transition to a low carbon economy is progressing well in this community, and this will hopefully encourage more adoption of green renewable technologies within the Gaeltacht areas in the future.
